  • Project Code: 017 Mini Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometer for Space Applications
    For the characterization of chemical and biological atmosphere of a space vehicle such as Space Station or planetary atmosphere a light weight, low power consuming, and rugged instrument is needed. STC is developing a miniaturized mass spectrometer that will fulfill all these requirements. It is based on miniature time-of-flight mass spectrometer (TOFMS) that has already been developed, a photograph of which is shown in figure 1. Since it is well known that a TOFMS has capability of detecting unlimited mass it is especially suitable for detecting biological molecules present in planetary environment.
